Business Analyst

CCV is looking for an energetic and self-motivated individual to join our consulting team as an AmeriCorps*VISTA volunteer. We are a non-profit business development organization that provides financing and consulting services to small, growing businesses in the region’s underserved markets which include women- and minority-owned enterprises and companies operating in low and moderate income areas.

We specialize in offering assistance to companies that are beyond the start-up phase and at a pivotal stage in their development. Through a combination of personalized consulting and financing we help our clients to grow to scale – and in turn create opportunities for others in their communities.

The ideal candidate will share our commitment of providing quality professional services to under-resourced entrepreneurs.

This position is part of the AmeriCorps*VISTA program (for more information visit www.americorps.gov) and requires a one year term of service. Full-time members receive a monthly stipend, health coverage, and an Education Award of $4,725 to pay for college, graduate school, or to pay back qualified student loans. This position is an excellent opportunity for business professionals who are planning to enter graduate school to diversify their resume and show schools their commitment to community service. Past CCV AmeriCorps* VISTA members have been accepted to leading business schools, including: the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business, the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, University of Michigan Ross School of Business and the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth.

Responsibilities: The Business Analyst will work with the CCV staff to deliver consulting services to support high growth businesses located throughout the Chicagoland area.  He/she will analyze business plans, perform market research, and provide financial analysis for client engagements.

Assignment Weights:
Consulting Services (80%)

  • Meet with CCV clients and conduct assessments of client businesses
  • Develop consulting work-plans based on client assessments
  • Conduct and coordinate market research and develop marketing and sales strategies for CCV clients
  • Perform financial analyses of client companies and advise them on matters related to debt and equity fundraising
  • Interpret and evaluate findings and present recommendations to client companies
  • Prepare reports, presentations and case studies based on consulting case work
  • Actively participate in ongoing process of improving and expanding suite of services offered to clients

Other (20%)

  • Work with CCV consulting staff to create and lead monthly courses for various business training programs. Course subjects cover a broad range of topics such as Marketing, Human Resources, Finance, and other relevant topics for small business owners. 
  • Maintain relationships with financial providers (banks, VCs, etc) and professional service providers to identify opportunities and resources for CCV clients

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in related field
  • Excellent analytical and business assessment skills
  • Strong understanding of the principles of strategic management
  • Familiarity with financial modeling and business valuation techniques
  • Experience analyzing business plans
  • Proficiency with spreadsheet, database and word processing software
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work in a diverse team environment and regularly interact with clients
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; strong presentation skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to community development and / or working with small businesses.
  • Desire to grow with and actively contribute to a dynamic organization

Compensation and Benefits: This position is funded by the Corporation for National and Community Service, an independent federal agency created to connect Americans with opportunities to give back to their communities, as part of the AmeriCorps*VISTA program.

Full-time members who serve for one year receive a monthly stipend of $941, medical coverage, and a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award of $4,725 to pay for college, graduate school, or to pay back qualified student loans.
